Holiday and Seasonal Storage

Let’s talk holiday and seasonal storage. Start with a few questions: How is the lighting where these things are stored? Is it a mild nuisance or maddening?

Garage storage is excellent for items that are not harmed by cold. Using bins with lids that snap on will keep things dustproof and ready when you next need them. For bulky or strange-shaped items, I put garbage bags over each end and tape together. Don't forget to label them, so no one throws them out!

Many types of shelving units are designed for garage storage-specifically, yet, budget-minded homeowners beware, you-get what you pay for! Skip the flimsy plastic shelves. Investing in a quality shelving unit will allow you to store bulky items as well as add labeled containers.

What about existing storage areas? Let’s rethink how they are being utilized. Are they organized to the best use of space? Create clear walkways or access points. Use the entire space from floor to ceiling. Consider clear bins with lids, bins with drawers for those smaller items, or baskets for odd-shaped items.

Many of these suggested storage upgrades can be handled without hiring a contractor! For those interested, we have experience designing and modifying storage spaces.
