Bad and “Less Bad” Electrical Signs

Do you have an outlet where you plug in four or six devices instead of two? If so, you have overloaded the electrical circuit and it’s just a question of how the problem will present itself (ie. fire, electrical failure, etc.).

Outlets should never spark when you plug or unplug things from them. There should also never be any gray around your outlet. These are signs of your outlet being worn.

If you simply plug a hair dryer or electric razor into your bathroom outlet and you hear a “click” and discover your device isn’t working, then you just need to press the reset button in the outlet. These are a part of having GFCI outlets which are commonly in bathrooms, basements, and garages.
