How to Prepare for a Home Renovation

Any home improvement project comes with potential stress but also excitement. Being ready for “demo” day with these helpful tips that can help alleviate some stress.

SHOULD I STAY OR LEAVE DURING THE PROJECT?

Any home improvement project can be dusty, loud, and possibly inconvenient. If you have a major project ahead of you, staying with a friend or family member might make life easier. Or, utilize alternate areas in your house like the living room or basement for temporary living arrangements.

PREPARE ADJACENT ROOMS FOR THE REMODEL

It’s good to prep adjacent rooms for your project. Remove photos or any items hanging on walls or shelving units. Home improvement projects can be quite dusty so we suggest you cover furniture with sheets and box up any knick-knacks and store them away from the high traffic areas. Ask your contractor if they can put up plastic sheets & cover doorways to help keep the dust down.

PREPARE YOURSELF

Home improvement projects are loud. Your home will be messy for a bit and your privacy interrupted for a time. Step away when you can and go for a walk with the family. Keep in touch with your contractor and ask for progress reports. Sometimes, it’s hard to see all the progress and they will be happy to share the latest updates.

Construction is not fun, but once it’s all over, you will have a beautiful home.
